Vice President Candidate:

Sasha Washington

Proposer: Jennifer Davies

Seconder: Elisendra de Wit

What is the main change you want to see in welfare, activities and inclusion at NUA Students' Union?

If I become student Vice President I want to gain a full understanding of what students want and ensure their voices feel heard. Due to the current situation, many students have struggled with their mental health. This is of upmost importance and I will ensure they do not feel alone. I feel dealing with welfare, inclusion and activities at NUA all require myself to listen to students, then act on the information given. I would like to see more students taking part in societies and activities that they actually want to attend.

What are your objectives for your year in office?

  • Checking up on students mental health.

  • Planning activities that people will be interested in and regularly attend.

  • Engaging with clubs and societies ensuring there are sports clubs as well as creative clubs.

  • Placing a higher focus on business opportunities towards graduation and networking session.

What policies would you deliver if you were elected as Students' Union Vice President?

  • As students mental health is so important, I want to implement designated chill out areas around the uni. A place to de-stress and relax.

  • Organise COVID safe off campus activities for the remaining students and freshers.

  • Enhance the business opportunities already provided. More group activities about business skills and connecting with small businesses that can give advice/help.

  • Providing the correct facilities and equipment for societies, on or off campus.

What skills and experience do you bring to the role that makes you the best candidate?

I bring a range of skills and experience as I have been heavily involved with the Students' Union during my time at uni. I have been an outreach ambassador for 3 years, a student rep for 2 years and a society officer for 2 years. I have planned activities/trips, given presentations, acquired feed back from students, equipment requirement meetings and much more. I may have even shown you around the uni on an open day!

Why should students vote for you as the 2021/22 Students' Union Vice President?

Students should vote for me for Vice President as I care about what they want. I am their voice. I’m very approachable and always welcoming with a smile. The goal is student satisfaction and I want to see everyone to succeed.
