Candidate Documentation
Voting week: advice for students

The NUA Students' Union President elections will be taking place on campus from 11am on Monday 2nd March to 4pm on Thursday 5th March. During this time there are a few things you need to be aware of as an NUA student.

Candidates and their campaign teams will:

  • Be talking to lots of students about their campaign proposals

  • Wear t-shirts or other merchandise to promote their campaign

  • Approach you to ask you to vote for them whilst in NUA buildings

What shouldn’t happen:

  • Candidates should not approach you outside of NUA buildings

  • Candidates should never threaten, intimidate or bribe you to vote for them

  • Candidates are not allowed to approach you within two metres of the ballot boxes

You have the right to make a complaint against the conduct of a candidate or their campaign team if you feel they have broken either of these rules. For more information, please refer to our “Guidance for Election Grievances” document.

During the election we recommend that you:

  •  Ask questions and challenge candidate proposals during discussions/hustings

  • Compare the manifestos and campaign proposals of all candidates before making a decision

  • Cast your vote at one of the designated ballot stations across campus (all students are eligible to vote!)

NUA students can vote via paper ballot at the following locations:

Voting Day 1

Tuesday 3rd March, 10am-4pm

Gunton's Foyer

Voting Day 2

Wednesday 4th March, 10am-4pm

St Andrew's Cafe

Voting Day 3

Thursday 5th March, 10am-4pm

St George's Foyer

Students will be required to present their NUA ID Card at the ballot station in order to vote.

We use the Alternative Transferable Voting (ATV) method to carry out the election. More information about this is explained in this video.
